About the Film

Me&MyBois is a collective of masculine of centered people creating media outlets for LGBTQ people of color. With the increase in suicide attempts, particularly among young LGBTQ people of color, along with the increase of violence towards Trans Women and Men of color; it is the goal of Me&MyBois to provide visibility and resources for this community to combat the negative stereotypes perpetuated in households, workplaces, classrooms, public restrooms as well as mainstream media.  THE BOI DOC utilizes dialogue to break the silence created by racism, sexism, gender expression insensitivity, heterosexism, homophobia, and transphobia.

It is our belief that when people are shown images of people they can relate to or see positive and productive members of society who look or live like them, they will aspire to do the same, but even more they’ll see the humanity of the people whose story they’re hearing and see their own humanity reflected back.  Furthermore, we believe when people see themselves reflected in the media, whether someone looks like them or is experiencing a similar situation, they not only feel accepted, but also affirmed and empowered. It is the goal of Me&MyBois to empower and motivate the marginalized people of the LGBTQ community and people of color through documentary style narrative interviews curated in THE BOI DOC.

Me&MyBois has been working diligently and independently gathering the stories of Masculine or Masculine of Center identified LGBTQ people of color who have very different experiences but share similar stories of survival and success in an effort to motivate, affirm and redefine masculinity.  Me&MyBois has built their social network presence and interactions facilitating a global “boi” community, THE BOI DOC has connected bois from Vancouver to New Orleans and London to Seattle.

THE BOI DOC is an artistic manifestation of our desire to add our honest, uniquely provocative, and eloquent narratives about gender and gender expression through the Masculine and Masculine of Center queer voice of the people of the African diaspora to the world.
